At Mischief Management events, we strive to incorporate a high level of accessibility into our baseline attendee experience. However, we recognize that many people, especially disabled people, have needs that require additional accommodation regardless of an event’s design. Below is a list of standard accommodations that we are able to offer. To honor the complexity of each person's needs, we also encourage attendees to reach out to us at help@romance-con.com with any need that is not met by the accommodations listed here, or if you have any questions or concerns.
- Ability to avoid standing in lines
- Ability to avoid crowds and/or waiting periods in common spaces
- Access to a quiet room (available with no restriction to all attendees)
- Ability to move through a space before the majority of the crowd enters the space
- Extra time to get to seats (or signing lines)
- Seating near an aisle and/or door
- Seating close to presenters
- A walkthrough of the event space with staff
- A free aide badge for a companion
- Captioning of select programming (requires advance communication with event staff in order to have input in the schedule of captioned programming)
To provide you with these accommodations, our staff and volunteers need to be able to identify that you need them. Our policy is to never make assumptions about access needs based on appearances, so we use a system of stickers on badges for the majority of accommodations. We acknowledge that there can be some nervousness about taking a label for your badge, but to assist you quickly and efficiently when needed without you having to re-explain your needs throughout your time at Romance Con, we request that you still take a sticker even if you think your needs are visible.
We currently have three sticker types, each of which represent a different category of accommodation:
- Early access to the signing hall to get to lines and programming rooms to find seats
- Avoidance of lines and crowds
- Reserved seating close to presenters
There are also a number of accommodations we can provide on an individual basis that do not involve the sticker system. To learn more about these, click here.
